Athlete Support

Skyrunning UK are proud to have the best-of-the-best support us in what we do. We want to ensure that Skyrunning UK grows with every runner in mind.

We have therefore coordinated with respected UK runners to form an Athlete Commission who will guide and advise us on the progression of Skyrunning within the UK and of course, provide an insight into Skyrunning worldwide.

Residence: The Lake District, Cumbria, UKDiscipline: Primarily fell for racing and training. I do enjoy the trails for training though, less so the road, but I know it’s good for me!

Favourite shoe: Roclite 285 – a superb trail shoe, that I’ll race and train in. They’re light and responsive, but with enough cushioning for the hard-pack trail. I’ve raced in the English Championships on the fells wearing them too.

Favourite product: Raceshell 220 – although it’s a super-light jacket, it’ll take whatever elements come at it. With a tight-fitting hood and long sleeves with thumb loops it’s perfect for racing and training on the fells. I’ll also wear the Raceshell when I’m out on the bike – multi-purpose!

Favourite event and why: The Ennerdale and Wasdale Horseshoes are my favourite races. I love the Lake District fells, and enjoy pushing myself hard over longer events like these.

Advice to other athletes: Enjoy what you do, be grateful for whatever ability you have, and look towards achieving that which you think you can’t.

ANNA LUPTON (inov-8)

Residence: Broughton-in-Furness, in a nice quiet corner of the Lake District, UK

Discipline: Fell/mountain/off road running

Favourite shoe: X-Talon 212s – they’re so comfy and light they’re like grippy slippers!

Favourite product: Mistlite 130 Pants cos they keep me warm and dry and they’re not big and baggy like many windproof pants.

Favourite events and why: 3 Peaks because it’s a classic, I’ve had two wins there and it’s always a great atmosphere and Pikes Peak – because I ran well there at the 2010 World Long Distance Champs, the altitude is so crazy and the views are so stunning

Advice to other athletes: Train smart i.e. as hard as you can without getting injured/ill, rest when needed, don’t neglect flat speed work and get into ‘them thar hills’ when you can!

I first began trail running back in school as a way of keeping fit but the first time I got out on the hills in the Lake District I was hooked and have been running ever since.Since beginning my running career in 2001 I have travelled to some of the most amazing places and met some of the most incredible and individual people you could ever expect to meet, one in particular was the Kinabalu Climbathon in Malaysia, one everybody should put on their “to do” list!
